Teachers House

The Teachers House, where the final teacher residing in Brooman once lived, stands as one of only six original timber worker houses that have been restored in the historic Old Saw Mill Town of Brooman.

The building is made of all local timber throughout including original floorboards, weatherboards and Coachwood architraves. Materials used are either original, recycled or locally sourced native timber.

Imagine waking up in the morning to the warm crackling sounds of a cozy fireplace, its gentle light dancing across the room. The soft glow illuminates the spacious bedroom, highlighting the luxurious king-size bed that promises a night of restful sleep. As you lay there, you can't help but feel a sense of tranquility, knowing that you can enjoy the comforting view of the flickering flames right from the comfort of your own bed. It's a perfect blend of comfort and elegance, creating a sanctuary where you can unwind and recharge, surrounded by the beauty of both nature and modern amenities.

Step out onto the front balcony and let the warm rays of the evening sun envelop you in a sense of peace and tranquility. From this vantage point, you can watch the world go by as you unwind after a long day. The spacious kitchen beckons you to whip up your favorite culinary creations, while the combined living and dining area offers the perfect space to create a meal for you and your travelling companion. As you step into the well-appointed bathroom, the refreshing shower invites you to wash away the cares of the day, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and ready to embrace the evening ahead. This house is more than just a place to get away from the world – it's a sanctuary where you can create lasting memories and find solace in the simple joys of everyday life.

The property is completely off grid and powered by a central solar system with underground 240V power. Water comes from the pristine rain that falls from the sky, collected and stored in galvanised iron tanks. Hot water is heated b y instantaneous gas water heater located on the outside of the building.

The old town site is set opposite a large bend in the Clyde river. Deep water extends from the bend nearly kilometre upstream. It is a great place for canoeing, fishing for Bass, Platypus watching or simply listening to the dozens of unique and beautiful endemic bird species of this area.

There is a resident mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos that typically come out at dusk. Red Neck Wallabies dart about the place. There are also Bandicoots, micro bats, blue tongues and Possums.

The buildings date back to the late 1800’s to early 1900’s and once supported a thriving community of up to 200 people employed in the timber mill. Brooman had a post office, school, dance hall, mechanics building, galley, general store, phone exchange and cottages like the Lemon Tree for the saw mill workers and their families.
