Teachers House
The Teachers House
Cottage Features
The Teachers House is a restored timber worker's home with a spacious bedroom that includes a king-size bed and a fireplace. A unique feature of this property is the deep-soaking bathtub in the lounge room, perfectly positioned to enjoy the glow of the fireplace. The home also has a well-appointed kitchen, a combined living and dining area, and a front balcony for unwinding in the evening.
Building History
This house is one of six original timber worker's homes restored in the Old Saw Mill Town of Brooman. It was once the residence of the area's last teacher. The building is crafted from local timber, showcasing original floorboards, weatherboards, and Coachwood architraves. Only original, recycled, or locally sourced native timber was used in its restoration, preserving its authentic character.
Off-Grid Living
The property is completely off-grid and powered by a central solar system with underground 240V power. Water is collected and stored in galvanised iron tanks, and an instantaneous gas water heater provides hot water.
Brooman Features
The old town site is located on a large bend in the Clyde River, which is great for canoeing, bass fishing, and platypus watching. The area is home to dozens of unique bird species, as well as a resident mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Red-Necked Wallabies, Bandicoots, and Possums.
The buildings date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, when they supported a thriving community of up to 200 people. Brooman once had a post office, school, dance hall, general store, and cottages for the sawmill workers and their families.
