Lemon Tree Cottage
The Lemon Tree Cottage
Cottage Features
The Lemon Tree Cottage is a beautifully restored timber worker's house. The bedroom has a king-sized bed, a ceiling fan, and large windows. The cottage includes a cozy living area with an open-plan kitchen featuring a gas cooktop, exhaust, and hardwood shelving. The front porch has a daybed, perfect for reading or stargazing. The bathroom, located off the back porch, includes a large tiled shower, a bath, toilet, and a Coachwood vanity.
Building History
This is one of six original timber worker's houses that have been restored in the Old Saw Mill Town at Brooman. The building is made of local timber, including original floorboards, weatherboards, and Coachwood architraves. The living room paneling and window bench are crafted from local Casuarina. All materials used are either original, recycled, or locally sourced.
Off-Grid Living
The property is completely off-grid and powered by a central solar system with underground 240V power. Water is collected and stored in galvanised iron tanks, and an instantaneous gas water heater provides hot water.
Brooman Features
The old town site is located on a large bend in the Clyde River, which is great for canoeing, bass fishing, and platypus watching. The area is home to dozens of unique bird species, as well as a resident mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Red-Necked Wallabies, Bandicoots, and Possums.
The buildings date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, when they supported a thriving community of up to 200 people. Brooman once had a post office, school, dance hall, general store, and cottages for the sawmill workers and their families.
