Mill House
The Mill House
Cottage Features
The Mill House is a restored cottage with two bedrooms, each with a king bed and a private door leading to the verandah. The spacious bathroom includes a soaking bath, separate shower, and a handcrafted Coachwood vanity. The open-plan living space features a cozy fireplace and a kitchen crafted from local Coachwood. An expansive timber deck extends the living space outdoors, complete with a daybed and a sitting area.
Building History
This cottage is one of six original timber worker houses in Brooman's Old Saw Mill Town. Built in the 1920s, the building originally served as the town's dance hall before being converted into lodgings for mill workers. The home has been lovingly restored using materials sourced directly from the property, including the handcrafted Coachwood vanity and the expansive timber deck.
Off-Grid Living
The property is completely off-grid and powered by a central solar system with underground 240V power. Water is collected and stored in galvanised iron tanks, and an instantaneous gas water heater provides hot water.
Brooman Features
The old town site is located on a large bend in the Clyde River, which is great for canoeing, bass fishing, and platypus watching. The area is home to dozens of unique bird species, as well as a resident mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Red-Necked Wallabies, Bandicoots, and Possums.
The buildings date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, when they supported a thriving community of up to 200 people. Brooman once had a post office, school, dance hall, general store, and cottages for the sawmill workers and their families.
