Our cozy bush shack offers a nostalgic escape to a simpler time, free from the distractions of technology and the demands of modern life.  Step inside and discover rustic furnishings, the gentle crackle of a wood-burning stove, and the scent of fresh eucalyptus. With no televisions, Wi-Fi, or phone reception, you'll be free to unwind, reconnect with nature, and rediscover the joys of a slower pace of life.

Lodging configurations:

The main shack welcomes you with a large, open-plan living space, warmed by a crackling wood fire. It's furnished with a cozy queen bed and a tri-bunk bed (double on the bottom and single on top), perfect for families or friends.  Relax and unwind in this comfortable space, where you can share stories, play games, or simply enjoy each other's company. The simple yet functional kitchen is equipped with a gas stove and all the cooking utensils you'll need to prepare delicious meals during your stay.

For those seeking a truly off-grid experience, we offer two small, detached dwellings.  One is furnished with a cozy tri-bunk bed, ideal for families or friends, while the other provides a romantic retreat with a queen bed. These unique accommodations are not connected to the main power grid, allowing you to fully disconnect and immerse yourselves in the tranquility of nature.  Solar-powered lanterns provide a soft, ambient glow in the evenings, creating a magical atmosphere.

Embrace the beauty of the outdoors with our unique bathroom facilities. We offer three separate toilets for your convenience. Two are located near the main shack, one of which is a traditional drop toilet, while the third is strategically positioned to offer a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.  Refresh and rejuvenate in our rustic outdoor shower, housed in a charming outbuilding. Enjoy the invigorating feel of hot water and the privacy of your own secluded shower space.

The outdoor space:

Gather around our open fire BBQ area, a perfect spot for sharing meals and stories under the stars. The rustic shelter provides a cozy ambiance and protection from the elements, while the crackling fire creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.  We provide a simple gas BBQ for your convenience if you prefer.

Explore 80 acres of picturesque farmland, with rolling hills, lush meadows, and direct access to the pristine Clyde River.  Grab a kayak and paddle along the tranquil waters, discovering hidden coves and enjoying the serenity of the surroundings.  You can also cast a line and try your luck at fishing, or simply relax by the water's edge and soak in the tranquility. The property also boasts a large, sprawling flat, perfect for a game of footy or cricket, or simply enjoying the wide-open space. Whether you're seeking adventure or relaxation, you'll find it here at Akuna Bush Retreat.

If bushwalking is your delight, you'll find yourself close to some of the best hiking trails on the coast. Challenge yourself with a climb to the top of Pigeon House Mountain, or explore the historic trails of The Castle, both just a short adventure away. Imagine breathtaking views, fresh mountain air, and the thrill of discovering hidden waterfalls and scenic lookouts.

Or, if you prefer exploring on four wheels, there are so many great tracks to choose from right on your doorstep. With this amazing property as your base, embark on thrilling 4-wheel drive adventures, navigating rugged terrain and discovering the hidden gems of the surrounding bushland.

To enhance the rustic bush getaway experience and minimise our environmental impact, we encourage guests to bring their own linens and bedding. This includes blankets, sheets, pillows, and towels.  By bringing your own items, you can personalise your comfort and help us reduce waste.  If you happen to forget something, please don't hesitate to contact us, and we'll do our best to assist you.

To maintain the pristine environment and minimise our impact on the surrounding natural beauty, we do not have laundry facilities on site. We encourage guests to pack accordingly and enjoy the opportunity to disconnect from everyday chores.  This helps us preserve the tranquility of the bush setting and conserve precious water resources.

Group Bookings

Akuna Bush Retreat can accommodate a maximum of 30 guests per stay.  The shacks comfortably sleep 10, and additional campers are welcome.  For groups larger than 30, please contact us prior to booking to discuss your needs and ensure we can comfortably accommodate your group.  We are always happy to help you plan the perfect getaway!

Your enjoyment and safety are our top priorities. In the rare event of excessive rainfall that requires guests to leave early due to the rising of water at river crossings, we offer a full refund for any unused nights of your stay.
